APRIL 28th 2011 – BEAVERS AND NEW LEADERS ARE INVESTED BY CHIEF SCOUT BEAR GRYLLS Monday, May 9 2011

Alex Coles invested as Ramsbury’s newest Leader …. Friday, Oct 22 2010

…. but he is not new to the Group.

Alex’s first investiture was held on 30th April 1998 (before most of our cubs were born!) when he joined 1st Ramsbury Beavers at the age of six.  He has been with us ever since, and now in his adulthood has started out as a fully-fledged leader.  Last night he was presented with his first leader’s scarf, having worn his beaver’s scarf for the last thirteen years (it is really very faded and dog-eared); new membership, county, district and group badges; his certificate of appointment and a 1st Ramsbury t-shirt.  Olwynne was assisted in his investiture by Heather Snook, who invested him as a Beaver in 1998!  Thank you to all the leaders, scouts & ex-scouts, cubs and parents who came along to mark the occasion with us.

Local hunting and gathering and eating of crayfish by Anna (Cubs) Thursday, Oct 14 2010

I got invested with the Cubs on the crayfishing day with my sister Lucy in our garden at home.  My mum had put 3 crayfish traps in the stream with fish remains in.  Once they were caught she put them in a special net that would keep them alive just above the bottom of the stream to clean them out.  These were the ones that we ate at Cubs.  Mum had put the three traps back in the water. Each six pulled up one trap, and then we put the crayfish from the special net in a large box with water in it to rinse them.  We each took one out and put them in boiling water.  Some people put them in front of people’s faces!  Whilst they were cooking we made a marie rose sauce with mayonnaise and ketchup and we also made potato salad, which Ann Eastlake, India’s mum showed us how to do.  Once the crayfish were ready, then we had to use scissors and my mum  showed us how to get the meat out of the crayfish.  We cut through the tail shell and took out the digestive cord and bashed the claws with a hammer to get the meat out from there.  Then we ate the crayfish with our marie rose sauce and potato salad.  It was really good.
