CUBS PANCAKE NIGHT by MADDY

At Cubs we have been doing something we all love – eating and making pancakes! We all got out saucepans, gas burners, and bowls, then we started on the mixture. The mixture contained eggs, flour, milk, and butter. After we’d made the mixture, we heated up the gas burners and poured the mixture into the saucepans. Some of us didn’t quite have the knack of pouring, and ended up with an oddly shaped pancake!

When the pancakes had sizzled for a while we got to flip them over. Some pancakes nearly hit the ceiling! By now it was time to stop cooking your pancake and to do my favourite part, eating it! A couple of people cooked the pancakes for a little too long, ending up with a black blob with crispy edges in the middle of their saucepan.

When we were filled with pancakes we decided amongst ourselves that pancakes have never tasted so good!

Scouts Bonfire by Stefan

The day started off at 10:00am in the morning. Everybody started arriving and we were all soon doing jobs. We were helping clean the churchyard before we lit the bonfires, so we helped by clearing all the leaves in the churchyard. Everybody was chatting whilst working, taking bags full of leaves to the compost heaps and putting some big sticks we found on the bonfires.

Then as quick as lightning it was now 11.45 am! It was time to burn the guys. We placed the guys on the bonfires and started to light them. Cheryl Cole fell a few times off the bonfire. We all stood there in excitement just watching our guy’s burn. Then we blinked and Cheryl Cole was gone, she was dust. We all agreed it must have been the hairspray she applied for the X Factor that day.

When all the guys had been burned to ashes, we all started to put more and more sticks on and keep the fire going. I think that it was a brilliant experience and had a really cool time.

At cubs we were making pumpkins for Halloween. first we got a piece of paper and drew our face of the pumpkins. Second we got our pumpkin and started getting all the insides of it out. Third we started carving our face onto the pumpkin. Fourth we put a candle into our pumpkin. Finally we put all the pumpkins by the wall, turned the lights off and lit the candle.

THE LEADERS WOULD LIKE TO SAY A BIG THANK YOU TO THE COMMUNITY MINDED PEOPLE AT TESCOS, MARLBOROUGH WHO DONATED THE PUMPKINS!

The Tudor Wells Memorial Junk-Boat Race

Cubs, Parents, Committee Members and Group Leaders gathered on Thursday to complete the project that Tudor started two weeks ago. It was wonderful that Frannie could share the evening with hr mum & sister too, and Connie is already planning to come along with her own boat next year. It was a beautiful evening and we are very grateful to Sarah Evans for letting us use her land; to Kevin & Alex for finding the spot and liaising with her; and to Adrian for donning dry-suit and saving the hippo!

What a good way for us all to remember Tudor’s contribution to the Cub Pack. The 2011 winners were Yellow Six, so congratulations to them and to everyone else whose junk-model boats were amazingly robust!

Aldbourne Cubs v. Ramsbury Cubs Spots Day Challenge – Thursday 9th June

Though the storm clouds threatened we managed to have a fantastic meeting with Aldbourne Cubs with Egg & Spoon Relay:

Bob demonstrated the gruelling Obstacle Race (which included five press-ups mid-race)

But ultimately the Challenge Cup went to Aldbourne by a small margin of five points and the highest scoring six was Black Six from Aldbourne, a fantastic effort from the four of them who did incredibly well being two cubs down on the other teams. Congratulations Aldbourne.

We closed the evening by sharing the investiture of our newest Cub. Welcome to 1st Ramsbury Eleanor.

The Cub Pack had an interesting evening on Springs Hill, putting the navigation skills they learned last week to the test. Taking bearings from landmarks, using their compasses and identifying symbols, gridlines and places in Ramsbury from their maps – before having a great game among the trees. We were joined on two occasions by a herd of Cows … thank you to our adult helpers for keeping them at bay!!!
